Wow. I've just come away from 3rd appointment with agreement on kids & finance. Can't believe it.:cheer:

The mediator gave a blast of reality that persuaded my wife to accept her proposal as amended by me. She gave my wife a proper idea of the likely split in court and likely legal costs. Fantastic. There's still some obstacles in the way, primarily my wife raising the mortgage she reckons she can, but if we can keep it going we can all move on quickly and avoid throwing money at legal costs.

Mediator now doing agreement in writing for sols & court.

A big thumbs up for mediation. :)I will have spent £600 to save £100,000 in legal fees, a year or more in time and god knows how much stress. The kids are the big winners.:cheer:

Depending how you look at how to value Mesher, she has got 66% of assets less cost of repaying the Mesher in 16 yrs time, 57% in present value terms, and 53% if we count the Mesher at 100% to me. She comes out better than me financially, but I get what I want with kids and more money than I would get if we spent £100,000 in legal costs. :cheer:

Well thats fantastic news JLG....she'll obviously go to her solicitors with the draft figures that the mediator sends to both parties....it ain't over 'til the comfortable person in a frock sings...!!(dont u hate PC!...).. once it's approved and signed you'll have cause to celebrate - certainly a step in right direction.

Markp, Well done. Good to hear common sense has prevailed and your ex has agreed with your son's terms for contact.:cheer:

JGLsDad,

Also good to hear your faith in the mediator was justified. It's an idea to ensure there is a clause in your agreement that should there be any disputes regarding the children in the future you will try to resolve them through mediation in the first instance. Hopefully onwards and upwards from now on then. :)

JLG'sDad,
If I might, I would like to add a cautious 'WELL DONE MATE!!!', albeit that I know that it is not yet in the bag.

I wished my STBX could come up against a mediator like that one! She deseperately needs a dose of reality.

Still, hopefully get her back around a table at some point soon. Can't wait :S

Get a bottle on ice for when the Consent Order is signed!

Take care, hope it goes well.

Mike

How do people reach an agreement by mediation that complies with divorce law without the presence of a solicitor at the negotiations?
Does the mediator advise on what's possible in law and what isn't?
