The certificate is required to commence proceedings but there will definitely be a way to divorce without the certificate.

I would imagine that it would be possible to issue an application for a declaration as to the validity of the marriage. This will be long-winded but possible. All for the sake of a piece of paper eh?

Thanks charles ... The solicitor says i need a marriage cert..... I dont think one was ever issued..... Even the nigerian embassy said that the photocopy i showed was the agreement to marry and that we had no impediment etc but was not the true certificate.
The idea to ask for validity of marriage seems to be a way forward using the premise that we are not married....... And therefore is null could be a way forward.... But is a long and winding road i guess....... Any one knows how i can proceed down this path and what to submit. I would welcome thier advice

British High Commission, maybe through the foreign office, would be my next port of call. If they have no record of the marriage, then you''re not married...MickJagger and Jerry Hall could represent your juriprudence!
