Any one help me...... I was married to a Nigerian woman long time ago and have been separated for a long time...... I want a divorce but cannot get the marriage cert .... She says it''s lost ..... We married under traditional marriage .....but it seems we have no marriage certificate as I talked to the Nigerian ambassador who said only she can get the certificate...

I therefore cannot get a divorce cos cannot present the marriage certificate. What do I do?

hello lawler777
i don''t think a traditional nigerian marriage would be legally binding in the uk? particuarly if there is not official (legal) record of such a union?

hello Lawler777
other wikis can correct me but i don''t think you absolutely have to have your marriage certificate to apply for divorce, particularly after a separation of more than 2 years?!

Thanks. It''s such a strange one as I and the kids know we should complete all but she seems to enjoy the control by not helping prove we are married
