I was married for 3 years. I got an inheritance that I stupidly put in a joint account. The amount I got was about $50k. My husband spent close to $40 of it within a year buying a new car, boat and other material items.... all of which I did not know about until getting home and seeing it in the driveway. He makes $100K and I make $25k. I am asking for $1200/month in spousal support for a year and a half. It that a realistic amount to ask for? Will I be granted that? He is going to fight me on it and doesn''t want to give me anything because I initiated the divorce. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Shezi, may be your best bet then, as she probably knows the law better over there.

Good luck

Welcome to Wikivorce.

A lot depends on which state you are in - laws differ from state to state. I would suggest you speak to a local lawyer for advice and information as we can only, on the whole, advise on family law matters in the UK.

I dont think the amount of spousal support you are requesting is unreasonable, esp for the short period of 18 months. But that''s just my personal opinion.

I''d second Ruby here. To my knowledge you don''t divorce in the USA, you divorce in the state.

You can sometimes pick up useful tips about family law from the websites of attorneys practising in the state where you brought your proceedings.

But wiki cannot help you, sorry.
