Hello

Defending the claim is similar to defending a parking ticket you haven't paid. You’ll get a letter or email from court if someone claims you owe them money. You must respond by the date on the email or letter you receive.

You can respond by:

1. paying the full amount
2. paying only what you think you owe
3. defending the claim (if you do not think you owe any money or you’ve already paid)

You might have to pay more or get a county court judgment (CCJ) if you do not respond in time.

Hi,
On this matter, I chased solicitor today for response and she emailed that she have now issued county court proceedings against me for the recovery of those fees. The court will contact me in due course."

Should I go ahead and file a complaint with Legal Ombudsman? Do you believe that Legal Ombudsman will be looking matter properly?
Actually I am bit surprised, Solicitor's mistakes are visible in invoice and emails even then she is behaving very confident. She must know the rule then knew her mistakes.
please advice.

Thanks

I suggest to call the ombudsman and explain the whole situation, then they can advise you.

You can contact the Legal Ombudsman by:

1. calling them on 0300 555 0333
2. going to the Legal Ombudsman website
3. emailing them at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

They will keep in contact with you and make sure your case is passed to an investigator for assessment.
