I concluded my divorce just a few days ago.

I did almost everything myself from Petition to Decree Nisi.

The problem is that my ex used a solicitor and that the latter was sending me crazy when dealing with the Consent Order.

You know, consent orders are complicated, too much complicated.

So I had to find a solicitor too.

It was a fixed fee of £450+VAT.

I ended up paying £930.

That''s because it looks like it was a fixed price unless it took longer than expected.

I am a freelance software developer.

If I quote my clients a fixed price and, at the end of the project, I want more because it took longer, I don''t last two days, you know.

Just with lawyers it''s different, they do as they want.

Just don''t believe them when they say that''s a fixed fee.

Hope that this may help someone.

I''m sorry you had a difficult experience.

For the record, the poster isn''t referring to the Wikivorce fixed fee services.

It sounds as though additional work was required to get your consent order ready - work that wasn''t within the parameters of the fixed fee service.

For future reference - always read carefully what''s included in a fixed fee service, and if you are unsure - ask. Clarity is vital.
