Yes - there are a variety of systems which involve a capped hourly rate and a cap on the total amount of costs. The latter can be extended if the case requires it.

If a person in receipt of legal aid obtains a costs order against another party, the solicitor is permitted to recover costs at a higher rate but this is unlikely to apply to your enquiry.
