Hi All,

My ex is a solicitor. We are selling our FMH in the middle of a very contested divorce. She has said she wants to use someone at her firm to handle the sale - conveyancing etc, because she gets a staff discount. They (the colleague) have made it clear that they would only act on the sale itself and would not get involved in dividing up the proceeds (which will be in dispute till financial divorce is over, so I guess will be held by the firm for some time), but that said I still feel very uncomfortable with using the suggestion. I know this is probably just me being emotional (suspecting conflict of interest) rather than rational (saving a few pounds off the overall huge divorce bill) about a standard piece of work for solicitors. What does everyone think?

I know how you feel. Mt ex''s sister was a Solicitor and it was the company that she worked for that handled the divorce.
I am told that there are plenty of safeguards in place to protect you from conflict of interest, but I didn''t feel that they worked and I felt heavily disadvantaged by the situation.
It''s half your house so I expect you will be paying half the costs and therefore have the right to propose another solicitor or object to your ex''s choice
