Brilliant just as my ex issues court proceedings and I want to settle out of court my solicitor says they are closing at the end of the month and another firm will be taking over!!! Now I have to pay the £2000 outstanding up front before they do anything - but I want to settle NOW!!! 5 Months ago the female solicitor that I specifically picked at the firm retired without telling me and this new guy took over and has been useless - do I have to pay the bill or can I choose to go elsewhere - what happens to the money outstanding a friend told me it gets wiped out with the firm that closes and not to pay it - I need help asap xxx

Your friend is talking rubbish I''m afraid. The fees are payable and not paying will end up with you being sued.

You can choose to go elsewhere but the solicitor is entitled to withhold your file until payment is received.
