I am thinking about going to court and leaving the division of the family home to the judge.

I will be self repping and would like to know what sort of fees, charges and costs i am likely to incur.

Also will i be liable for any of my STBX costs.

Before the application you will need to attend a mediation meeting (MIAM). The cost of this will depend on your circumstances.

The court application itself (Form A) is £255 and covers the three main hearings.

If you don't have a printer and scanner it may be worth investing in these as there are lots of printouts to be made! Postage too can mount up.

In family law the normal procedure is that each party pays for their own costs. Sometimes though the judge will take them from the 'pot' before divvying it up so it can feel like you're paying for your ex's costs. Only where there is litigation misconduct would you be directly liable for your ex's costs.

I also bought a few books and most expensively a one year subscription to a family law website. I think my direct costs up to and including the extra judgement hearing were about £500. In my own case I also had travelling costs (another £500) as hearings were several hundred miles away.
