Its is possible to have the type of supportive relationship from a ex your describing. My parents were married for 30+ years when they divorced. Both have new partners (in fact mum remarried) . However they are still there for each other.

When my mum and her husband found my uncle dead in his home the first person mum called was my dad.

Both parents and partners attend family functions even at each other homes.

They actually get on better now than when they were married!
