I left our marital home over a year ago and have been divorced a month now. My ex husband will not allow me to collect mine and my daughters belongings from the marital home, i also have items of furniture that are from a previous marriage in the house but he will not let me have anything. He is now saying i owe him money for a holiday we went on together! What can i do to get my things back?

Are you at the stage of sorting out finances and if so, has the issue of personal possessions been considered ?

Is the situation that the ownership has not been determined yet ?

Most lawyers will tell you that it may not be worth a squabble over furniture. It may cost more than the value of the itemsin question.

A lot of my belongings are non marital assets - items i bought with my 1st husband but my ex will not let me have these items or any of my personal belongings. He says that he is in possession of the house and contents and it's all his now. I had to leave our marital home because of his aggressive behaviour towards me and am currently renting a property with my 2 daughters, it's expensive and i am getting into debt! He says i am not entitled to anything, he has a solicitor but i cannot afford one!! What can i do?

I think it is very very unlikely that you will not be entitled to anything if you have dependent children.

Who owns the house you left ?

Would housing benefit be an option for you ?
How long were you married ? You say you have been divorced : what stage are you at with regard to the finances ?
