Due to go into mediation in the morning, I earn over 30k so will be charged £200 an hour after the initial consultation while my ex will pay £50.
The trouble is I'm totally skint, I'm £4600 into my 5k overdraft (after my ex took £500 out of our joint account even though she now has her own bank account and contributes nothing to the mortgage/bills/food). I am also up to my neck in credit card debt (15K).
Basically I can not afford my own solicitor or this mediation, anyone got any suggestions..........please......help!:(:(

I had a huge row with mediator over this. Although my income was just over the threshold for public funding I was told that because of the outgoings I would get publicly funded. At the first interview they demanded £600.
I was in a state of shock and when I said to the thick mediator how can I pay this she said oh we take credit cards.
No you stupid woman, with two kids and a huge mortage how can I pay this when I can't make ends meet now. It was a sales job pure and simple.
Anyway we had a big row, I said that no way could I deal with such biased person and stormed out. Just as well I didn't pay as they had got it wrong and they were trying to overcharge me by £100.
Personally I think mediation is a complete waste of time and money but the mediators do very nicely out of it.

Hi

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner and hope your mediation session last week was not as bad as you might have hoped.

My advice is simple - shop around. There are different mediation services and they charge differently. Although the figure you quote is not exceptional there are a number of other mediation services out there that charge less. We belong to a network of not-for-profit services who would gnereally charge less than that, but you would have to the details from you local service.

good luck

Likewise for me. I would rather go to mediation, but a) i would have to bear the cost and b) ex lives 250 miles away and so would probably not bother to turn up.
Trying to sort it out by exchange of form E's but I can see we won't agree. I don't want to go to court (i.e. costs) and I know he won't have the bottle, or pay up either.
Stuck in a hole at the moment!
