Hi

I am currently going through a seperation, we have two young children under 5 and cannot agree on children maintenance to be paid. Myself and my partner both earn over 60k each and have agreed 50/50 of the children going forward.

i have read lots online around sorting a child maintaince between us is the best route of action but we cannot. As the father she believes she’s entitled to a large sum of money each month, which I am
confused to why. If we had the children 50/50 and she runs her own successful business earning well, why does the mother receive the money?

i am happy to agree a rate but not what the online calculator suggest as it doesn’t take in consideration her earnings and the fact the children would spend their time with us 50:/50

can any one clear this up for me please?

If you are sharing care of the children equally and you each have similar incomes, does not seem to be any reason why CM is an issue. You can agree to share additional costs like big school trips and extra curricular activities.

Have a look at the child maintenance calculator www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance

You will see the amount reduces for each night spent with you.
