Hi,
My soon to be ex-wife are divorcing and she will be asking for spousal support. I currently earn about 2.5 times her salary and have already agree child maintenance payments. My question is in regards to my job. It is currently very insecure and I could not have this job at some future point. Can I also apply for spousal maintenance that will kick-in if I lose this job?

If she earned £10000 and you £25000 net the combined incomes would be £35,000

Divide by 3 = £11,600 ish
deduct W's £10000
Maintenance = £1,160 pa

This 1/3rd rule is a tool not a rule and tends to be less relevant in small or large cases but shows in this case the liklihood W could claim subject to "neede" and the ability to pay.

Clearly if an order is made and circs change to either party then a variation of the order may be relevant
