Hobnobbing in on this one, to reiterate the importance of having a good look round at different seed types (there are so many) and getting one you like the look of - some are very fine blades, some very thick, differences in colour etc and also whether the area gets the sun or shade is important, you want one that will grow well to the conditions.

And, of course, as mentioned tough enough for little boys games and other wear and tear (e.g. if it is a bbq area). We can''t have your lawn looking scruffy !!!

Actually since the little man is a regular visitor he can be taught that the pond is dangerous. Occasional visits from his friends would be more of a worry. Or you could put a temporary fence round it.
