£300 seems extremely low. Normally a solicitor will charge by the hour, somewhere in the region of £200 per hour. They''ll charge you for the time taken to travel to and from the court, as well as the time spent at court.

£3000 seems a bit high for a first appointment too though.

If there are any delays at court, you''ll be billed by the hour for the actual time at court, not the time that your hearing is underway.

If I were you I would ask your solicitor to put in writing what that £300 entails. Is it a costs estimate for preparation and representation (seems unlikely) or the amount that they want on account to work on your case? If it''s the amount for prep and representation, is it a fixed price (extremely unlikely!)?

Are you talking about the FDR or another Directions appointment?

If it''s the FDR, £3000 seems on the low side. £5-6000 wouldn''t be uncommon.
