Do you provide clothes for the children when they are with you?

My husband ex wanted him to pay "a clothing allowance" for the children and then she would provide all the clothes when they came to our house, he decided it would be cheaper to get the children clothes to wear at ours rather than hand over money each time she demanded. He also buys a pair of school trousers and shirt for them. He did agree to share the cost of shoes, school sweatshirts and winter coat.

Hello Triangle

If you have a family-based arrangement in place this could be something that you and the other parent could discuss and negotiate on. Although, family-based arrangements are not legally enforceable, parents can decide the terms of their agreement to suit their current circumstances, as there are no strict rules or formulas to follow.

If you have a case with the Government’s statutory scheme you may wish to speak to them directly to discuss your concerns. You will find their details on any letters they have sent you or on Gov.uk at www.gov.uk/child-maintenance

If you a Consent Order/Minute of Agreement in place you may want to see what is stipulated within your agreement as to where you stand regarding your current circumstances. Alternatively, you may wish to seek legal advice.

Paying parents are legally responsible only for the amount worked out by the child maintenance Service and are not obliged to pay for anything extra, unless they wish to do so.

For more information on the different ways to set up child maintenance and for a more personalised service, you can visit the Child Maintenance Options website at www.cmoptions.org
