Some more thoughts for you :)

I agree with Lostboy that this could be confusing for your child.

My younger daughter has her father's name, I have my own. It doesn't cause any problems re schools, doctors, etc. My older daughter has always had my Maiden Name, and there has been no issues of non-unity between the children because of the differing surnames. They know they are sisters.

My own personal thoughts on basing the name change on the premise of future children is that it is a slightly spurious reason - currently there are no other children, and to base a major change on a "what if" needs to be considered carefully.
