Does anyone know if child tax credits have to be paid into the same bank account that child benefit is paid to?

I am trying to get the child benefit paid to a joint account as we have joint residency and the stbx says this will mess up her child tax credits as they must be paid to the same bank account

Anyone know if she is telling me a porky?

My daughters child benefit is paid into her own savings account whereas my child tax credit is paid into mine.

Think your stbx may be "confused" as I really can't see this can be correct.

I have my CB going in 1 account on a weekly basis and my CTC going in another account on a weekly basis.

How is the CTC being claimed though as a single applicant because yes this would mess things up i guess.

Now im very confused, when my middle son was living at home I asked the child benefit office to pay the benefit into his account and they refused and said it could only be paid into the parents account......I have heard other people saying that their child is receiving the child benefit so maybe all these agencies tend to give different answers to everyone!!!!!

They are dealt with by totally different departments and presumably the only link is that CTC can check that the CHB is being paid to the said person for those children. The account number itself I wouldn't have thought would be a problem. I guess that the point Angel made is what maybe the stumbling block as it is a joint account, but you say this is for the CHB and not CTC so I cannot see why this would be a problem; although that said, I guess if it is going into a joint account they may feel that you might try and prove that you are actually the one the CHB is being paid to and not her, if you get what I am saying.

Why not phone each department for clarification?
